Terms and Conditions

The terms you buy under. They are written to be read rather than to be skipped, and where Australian consumer law gives you a better right than anything here, that law wins.

Who you are buying from

securitylab.com.au is operated by Vimel Technology Pty Ltd, ABN 17 157 669 684, a company based in Sydney. Placing an order means you accept these terms.

Prices and GST

Every price on this site is in Australian dollars and includes GST. The price you see at checkout, with the postage shown there, is the price you pay.

Prices can change without notice, but the price shown when you complete your order is the price that applies to that order.

Payment

Payment is taken in full at checkout, using the payment options shown there. Card details are handled entirely by the payment provider and are never stored by us.

Stock and availability

Stock figures shown online are a guide to availability, not a guarantee that a particular item is on the shelf at a particular moment. If something you ordered turns out to be unavailable we will contact you promptly with the option of waiting, substituting or a full refund. We will not simply sit on your money.

Dispatch and delivery

We dispatch from Sydney every business day. Stocked items ordered before 4pm Sydney time on a business day are dispatched the same day, and other orders go out within 1 to 2 business days.

Orders go by Australia Post with tracking, using the Standard or Express service you choose at checkout. Standard Parcel Post usually takes 2 to 4 business days after dispatch within NSW and 3 to 6 interstate. Express Post is a paid upgrade and usually arrives 1 to 2 business days after dispatch to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Hobart. Regional and remote addresses can take longer. Large and heavy items, such as camera poles and solar kits, are quoted per order and sent by Aramex. The delivery page has the detail.

Every order is tracked, and the tracking number is emailed to you after 4pm on the day of dispatch.

Every parcel is sent with signature on delivery. If no one is home to sign, Australia Post takes the parcel to a nearby Post Office or Parcel Locker and holds it for collection for 10 business days, after which it is returned to us. If a parcel is returned to us because it was not collected, the postage to send it again is payable by you. The delivery page explains how to collect a missed parcel.

Risk and title

Risk in the goods stays with us until the parcel is delivered to you. If a parcel is lost or damaged in transit, that is our problem to solve, not yours. Tell us and we will deal with the carrier.

Ownership of the goods passes to you once payment has been received in full.

Warranty, returns and cancellations

Every product carries a 12-month warranty from the date of purchase. You have 14 days from delivery to return a product if you change your mind, and the return postage for that return is paid by you. Faulty items are covered by the warranty and the Australian Consumer Law, and we pay the postage for those. An order can be cancelled at no cost at any time before it is dispatched. Once it has been dispatched it can no longer be stopped, and it is handled as a change of mind return.

The full detail is on the returns and refunds page.

Your rights under Australian law

Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Where it gives you a remedy, you have it regardless of anything written here.

Goods must be of acceptable quality, fit for their purpose, and match how we described them. If they are not, you have a remedy under the Australian Consumer Law and the time limits in our returns policy do not cut it short.

Using the equipment lawfully

We sell equipment that is legal to own and legal to use in most situations, and unlawful in some. The difference is usually where you point it, not what it is.

The key Australian rules:

  • Recording a conversation you are part of: Victoria, Queensland and the NT allow it. NSW, Tasmania and the ACT allow it only where reasonably necessary to protect your lawful interests, or where it is not shared. WA and SA need the other people's consent unless it is reasonably necessary to protect your lawful interests.
  • Recording a private conversation you are not part of is an offence in every state and territory.
  • Filming someone undressed or in a private act without their consent is an offence in every state and territory.
  • Tracking a person without their consent is an offence in most states, and tracking a partner, former partner or family member can amount to stalking or a family violence offence anywhere in Australia. Trackers are for vehicles and assets you own.
  • If you record people in a workplace or a business, larger businesses must follow the Privacy Act 1988, and NSW and the ACT require written notice to staff before workplace cameras or vehicle tracking start.

Our FAQs cover this in more depth, and each buying guide sets out the law for its own category. You are responsible for using what you buy lawfully. This is general information and not legal advice, so if a recording may end up in a dispute or a court, get advice on your situation.

Errors

We check our product data carefully and we correct mistakes when we find them. If a price or a specification is obviously wrong, we will contact you before dispatch rather than quietly shipping something that is not what you thought you bought. You can cancel for a full refund in that situation.

Our content

The buying guides, comparison tables, photography and product write-ups on this site are our own work. You are welcome to link to them. Republishing them elsewhere without permission is not on.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of New South Wales, and the courts of New South Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.

Questions about any of this, ask us. We would rather answer before you order than argue after.
