Description

Smoke starts in the kitchen at two in the morning. A detector that only screams into the hallway is no use if the house is empty, and no use at all if you are the landlord and live an hour away.

The VIM-SMOKEIP is a photoelectric smoke detector that sounds its own 85dB alarm and tells your VIM alarm hub at the same time, so every phone on the account hears about it. It is completely wire free, mounts with a bracket in a few minutes, and its rechargeable battery holds two to three years of standby.

Features

Instant Phone Alerts: Central hub sends smoke detection notifications directly to your mobile via 433MHz signal
3 Years Without Charging: Rechargeable batteries deliver up to 36 months standby on a single charge
Install Anywhere in Minutes: 100% wire-free design mounts without cables or electrician
Multi-User Notifications: Entire household receives real-time alerts on their smartphones
Accurate Early Detection: High-precision smoke concentration sensors trigger alarm at first sign of smoke
Never Miss a Battery Change: Low battery buzzer sounds every 2 hours when recharge needed

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

A Rental You Are Responsible For

The property is tenanted or empty and you are the person who carries the risk either way.

The detector reports to the hub over 433MHz and the hub pushes the alert to your phone, so you and a property manager can both be on the notification list. Two to three years of standby means no annual battery call-out.

The Family Home Overnight

Everyone is asleep and something in the kitchen begins to smoulder.

The 85dB local alarm wakes the house while the hub alerts phones at the same moment, including a parent who is away. The photoelectric sensor responds to smouldering smoke, which is the fire type that most often starts overnight.

A Shop or Office Left Locked

Nobody is on site between closing and opening, and a fault in the wiring has all night to develop.

The 433MHz signal reaches the hub through internal walls, and the hub does the reporting, so the detector itself does not depend on the building's internet connection being up.

How it Works

Screw the mounting bracket to the ceiling between two and five metres above the floor and twist the detector into place.
Pair it to your VIM alarm hub from the app so the hub knows which room it is in.
When the photoelectric sensor detects smoke, the detector sounds its own 85dB alarm and signals the hub on 433MHz, and the hub pushes a notification to every phone on the account.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it still work if the hub is offline?

Yes. The 85dB alarm is built into the detector and sounds regardless. The hub is what turns that into a phone notification.

How long does the battery last?

Two to three years of standby on the included rechargeable cells. A buzzer sounds every two hours once it needs charging.

Can I install it myself?

Yes. It is completely wire free. Screw the bracket to the ceiling, twist the detector on, and pair it from the app. No electrician and no cabling.

How many phones can get the alerts?

Every household member with the app on the hub's account. There is no per-device limit to work around.

Does it work during a power cut?

Yes. The detector is battery powered throughout. The hub needs its own backup power for the notification to leave the building.

Can I fit this in a property I rent out?

Yes, as an extra alarm linked to the hub. Smoke alarm rules for rentals are set by each state and territory and are generally the landlord's responsibility, and this detector does not count towards the alarms they require. Give reasonable notice before entering to install it, and in a strata or shared building check the building rules on ceiling fixings first.
