Description

The VIM-FRAMECAM is a 2K camera in a 17.8 x 12.7cm photo frame, with a PIR sensor and a 10,000mAh battery that gives up to 180 days of standby. It is a set-and-leave camera: no network to join, no app to keep signed in, and nothing to recharge for six months.

It records 2304 x 1296 at 30fps across a 120 degree field of view, with infrared out to about 8m and a built-in microphone. PIR detection covers 5 to 8m and wakes it quickly, and plugged into mains it records continuously instead.

Features

Up to 180 days standby: a 10,000mAh battery plus PIR wake and low power draw, so it can sit in place for six months.
2K recording: 2304 x 1296 at 30fps, saved as MOV with a date and time stamp.
120 degree field of view: wide enough to take in a whole room from one wall or shelf.
PIR at 5 to 8m: a thermal and motion sensor that wakes the camera fast, so the start of an event is captured rather than the end of it.
Infrared to about 8m: records in a dark room out to 8m without adding visible light to it.
Mains or battery: plug it in for continuous 24/7 recording, or leave it on the battery for PIR triggered capture.
Audio: a built-in microphone records sound with the video.
It works as a photo frame: the frame is functional, so it earns the wall or shelf it occupies.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

Somewhere You Own With No WiFi

A shed, a holiday house, a garage or an outbuilding. Nothing here needs a network, an app or an account, so it works in buildings where a connected camera cannot.

Long Unattended Cover

Where you cannot get back for months. PIR standby plus a 256GB card is the combination that makes a six month deployment realistic rather than theoretical.

A Room In Your Own House Or Office

On mains power it records continuously, and the 120 degree lens covers a normal room from a single position on a shelf or a wall.

How it Works

Charge and load: charge the 10,000mAh battery and fit a microSD card up to 256GB.
Place it: stand or mount the frame facing the room. The PIR sensor covers 5 to 8m, so set it within that of the area that matters.
Choose the mode: leave it on battery for PIR triggered recording and long standby, or plug it into mains for continuous 24/7 recording. Read the card on a Windows computer.

Specifications

Power: 5V, 2A maximum. Use the adapter supplied, or a standard 5V USB charger or power bank rated 2A or less. Do not use fast chargers (USB-C PD, Quick Charge, Super Fast Charging) or high-output power banks: they can damage the device.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the battery really last?

Up to 180 days on standby with PIR triggered recording. That is standby time, not recording time: the more events it wakes for, the shorter it gets. Continuous 24/7 recording needs mains power.

Does it need WiFi or an app?

No. It is a standalone recorder, which is why it works in buildings with no network. The trade-off is that there is no live view: you review footage from the card.

How wide is the view?

120 degrees, wide enough to cover a normal room from one wall without needing to be re-aimed.

How far does the PIR sensor reach?

5 to 8m. Place the frame within that distance of the area you want covered, or the sensor will not wake for it.

Does it record in the dark?

Yes, with infrared out to about 8m. It records in a dark room without adding any visible light to it.

Where can I use this and stay within the law?

Using a camera like this to protect your own home, business, property and family is lawful in Australia. Surveillance devices laws differ by state and territory, and filming people where they expect privacy, such as a bathroom or bedroom, or recording a private conversation you are not part of, is generally not allowed. If carers, cleaners, staff or guests use the space, tell them a camera is there. This is general information, not legal advice.
