Description

The Star 24 is the modular member of the Lornet range. Rather than one fixed transmit band it takes interchangeable 800MHz, 2400MHz and 3600MHz antenna modules, so the same detector head is tuned to the material and the environment in front of it.

Lower frequencies penetrate building fabric further; higher ones resolve smaller targets. Tuning steps follow the band: 200kHz at 800MHz, 2MHz at 2400MHz and 13MHz at 3600MHz. Peak output reaches 18W in pulse with CW averaging 300mW or less, receiver sensitivity is at or below -110 dBm, and detection range runs to about 50 metres in pulse and sub-metre in CW.

Features

  • Dual-harmonic verification: Reads second and third harmonics to confirm semiconductor junctions, including devices that are powered down.
  • Pulse and CW modes: Use pulse for rapid area scans and CW for close inspection with acoustic and visual feedback.
  • Modular antennas: Swap 800 MHz, 2400 MHz, and 3600 MHz modules to match the environment and target band.
  • Clean-channel tuning: Automatic frequency selection with anti-jamming DSP reduces interference for clearer sweeps.
  • Long-range sweep capability: Up to 50 m in pulse mode with sub-meter pinpointing in CW.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

Inspections Across Different Building Types

A concrete-and-steel floor plate and a plasterboard office do not behave the same way under an NLJD.

Swapping between the 800MHz, 2400MHz and 3600MHz modules is how one instrument covers both. The lower band gets further into dense fabric, the higher band resolves smaller junctions in furniture and fittings.

Standoff Work Then Close Localisation

Up to about 50 metres in pulse mode is a different job from sub-metre in CW, and both are needed in a full inspection.

Cover the area in pulse, then change mode rather than equipment to close in. The removable telescopic rod extends 54 to 86cm for the parts of a room nobody can reach standing up.

A Consultancy Running Repeat Inspections

Modularity is a purchasing decision as much as a technical one, because the kit can be specified for the work rather than replaced when the work changes.

One to three antenna modules ship depending on the kit selected, on one detector head, one charger and one case. The remote control module supports working the instrument at arm's length.

How it Works

  1. Choose the antenna module for the environment: 800MHz for depth into building fabric, 2400MHz for general room work, 3600MHz for fine resolution on smaller targets.
  2. Enable automatic tuning, which steps at 200kHz, 2MHz or 13MHz according to the module fitted, and let the anti-jamming filter suppress background noise.
  3. Sweep in pulse mode, up to 18W peak and about 50 metres, then change to CW for sub-metre localisation, comparing the second and third harmonic returns as you close in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which bands does it cover?

Interchangeable 800MHz, 2400MHz and 3600MHz antenna modules. Kits ship with one to three modules depending on what was specified.

Why would I want more than one module?

Lower frequencies penetrate building materials further; higher ones resolve smaller junctions more sharply. A single band forces a compromise that a modular instrument does not.

When do I use pulse and when CW?

Pulse for coverage, at up to 18W peak and a stated range of about 50 metres. CW for pinpointing, where the specification gives sub-metre resolution with acoustic and visual feedback.

How do I minimise interference?

Automatic tuning selects a quiet channel, stepping at 200kHz, 2MHz or 13MHz depending on the fitted module, and the anti-jamming filter suppresses what is left.

What runtime and reach should I expect?

About 2.5 to 3 hours in pulse or about 1.5 hours in CW on the dual 12V Li-ion batteries. The removable telescopic rod extends from 54 to 86cm. Operating range is plus 5 to plus 40 degrees Celsius.

Who is this equipment for?

Technical surveillance countermeasures practitioners, corporate security teams and facilities that run their own inspection programmes. A non-linear junction detector is an operator-dependent instrument: results depend on technique, on knowing what a false response from a corroded joint looks like, and on interpreting harmonic ratios. It is not a plug-in-and-scan device.

Does it replace an RF detector?

No, they answer different questions. An RF detector finds what is transmitting now. An NLJD finds semiconductor junctions whether or not anything is powered, which is how a dormant or switched-off device is found. A full sweep uses both.
