Description

The VIM-VOICETINYN is a very small pendant style voice recorder, 60 x 20.7 x 9 mm in a solid plastic case, that hangs from a cord or a keyring so your hands stay free while it runs. It records mono audio at 192 kb/s through a high sensitivity microphone with noise reduction, which is enough to pick up speech across a room.

It runs for up to 30 hours of continuous recording, up to 50 hours with voice activation switched on, and holds about a month in standby. The 4 GB of internal memory stores roughly 47 hours of audio at that quality. The recorder also works as a USB flash drive, so you copy files off by plugging it into a computer, with no software and no card reader needed.

Features

Hands free pendant: At 60 x 20.7 x 9 mm it hangs from a cord or a keyring, so you can record while your hands stay on the job.
Voice activation (VAS): It records only when there is sound to capture, which stretches operation from 30 hours to about 50.
High sensitivity microphone: Picks up speech at up to 10 metres indoors, with noise reduction to cut background hum.
Up to 30 hours continuous: Long enough for a full day of sessions, with about a month of standby between uses.
Works as a USB flash drive: Plug it into a computer to copy recordings off, with no software or card reader needed.
Solid plastic case: A one piece housing that stands up to being carried around every day.
4 GB of internal memory: Around 47 hours of audio at 192 kb/s before you need to clear anything off.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

Hands free notes on the job

Trades people, inspectors and warehouse staff use a recorder like this to talk through what they are looking at while both hands stay on the work. Worn on a cord it sits close enough to pick up your own voice clearly, and 30 hours of runtime covers a full week of short entries.

Meetings and interviews you are part of

Set it on the table for a meeting you are attending and the high sensitivity microphone covers a normal sized room. Voice activation means the recording is the conversation rather than the silence before and after it.

Keeping your own record

Where you are dealing with a difficult supplier, tenant or contractor, a recording of a conversation you are taking part in is a far better record than notes written afterwards. The 4 GB of memory holds around 47 hours, so nothing needs deleting in a hurry.

How it Works

Charge the recorder over USB using the supplied adapter.
Switch it on for continuous recording, which runs up to 30 hours, or turn on voice activation so it starts when it detects sound and reaches about 50 hours.
Plug it into a computer, where it appears as a USB flash drive, and copy the recordings across.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the voice activation feature work?

With VAS enabled, the recorder starts and stops automatically based on detected sound. That reduces silent gaps in the file and extends runtime from about 30 hours to about 50.

How long can it operate on one charge?

It records for up to 30 hours continuously, up to 50 hours with voice activation, and can sit in standby for about one month.

What recording distance can I expect?

The high sensitivity microphone is rated to pick up voices at up to 10 metres in typical indoor conditions. Hard surfaces and background noise will reduce that.

How much audio does it hold?

The 4 GB of internal memory stores roughly 47 hours of audio at 192 kb/s.

How do I access my files?

Connect the device to a computer, where it appears as a USB flash drive, and copy or review the recordings without any special software.

Is it legal to record audio in Australia?

Recording your own dictation, a meeting where everyone knows it is recording, or sound in your own empty home, vehicle or site is lawful. Surveillance devices laws differ by state and territory: recording a conversation you are part of is allowed in some states and restricted in others, and recording a private conversation you are not part of is generally not allowed. This is general information, not legal advice.
