Description

The MSBANK-1000 is a compact 10,000 mAh lithium ion power bank for everyday top ups. It charges two devices at once from a pair of 5V outputs rated at 1A and 2.1A, refills in about six hours, and has short circuit, overcharge and temperature protection built in.

At 90 x 64 x 21 mm it slips into a jacket pocket or the side of a bag. It works with phones, tablets, Bluetooth accessories, GPS units and cameras that charge over USB, and runs from -10 to 40 degrees Celsius. Supplied in white or grey depending on stock.

Features

Capacity: 10,000 mAh of lithium ion cell. Allowing for the losses in converting cell voltage up to 5V, that is around one and a half full charges of a typical 4,500 mAh phone.
Two outputs: Two 5V outputs rated at 1A and 2.1A, so a phone and a second device can charge at the same time.
Protection built in: Short circuit, overcharge and temperature protection on board.
Pocket sized: 90 x 64 x 21 mm, small enough for a jacket pocket or the side pocket of a bag.
Cycle life: Rated for more than 500 charge cycles.
Broad compatibility: Works with iPhone and iPad, MP3 and MP4 players, Bluetooth accessories, GPS units, PSP and cameras that charge over a standard USB lead.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

The daily commute and the school run

A 10,000 mAh bank is the size that lives in a bag without you noticing it. It covers the gap between a phone that is down to 15 percent at three in the afternoon and getting home, which is most of what people actually need a power bank for.

Travel and days out

Boarding passes, maps and photographs all run the battery down faster than a normal day does. This one recharges over the same Micro USB lead as most small accessories, so it is one less charger to pack.

Topping up small gear in the field

GPS units, portable recorders, headsets and action cameras that charge over 5V USB will all run from it. The 1A output suits the smaller of those and the 2.1A output a phone or tablet.

How it Works

Recharge the bank from any 5V USB charger using the supplied Micro USB lead. A full charge from empty takes about six hours.
Plug your device into one of the two 5V outputs. Use the 2.1A output for a phone or tablet and the 1A output for smaller accessories, or run both together.
The charge level indicator shows what is left, so you can top the bank up before you head out rather than finding it flat when you need it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to fully recharge the power bank?

About six hours from empty using a suitable 5V USB charger and the supplied Micro USB lead.

How many phone charges will I actually get?

Around one and a half full charges of a typical 4,500 mAh phone. The 10,000 mAh figure is measured at the cell voltage of 3.7V, and some of that energy is lost stepping up to the 5V your phone charges at, so what actually reaches the phone is less than the number on the label. A smaller phone gets more charges out of it, a tablet fewer.

Can it charge two devices at once?

Yes. The two 5V outputs are rated at 1000 mA and 2100 mA, so you can run a phone or tablet on the larger output and a smaller accessory on the other at the same time.

Is this a fast charger?

No. The outputs are 5V at up to 2.1A, which is around 10 watts. That is standard USB charging rather than one of the fast charging standards newer phones support, so a large phone will take longer to fill than it would on its own fast charger. It will charge steadily and safely, it just will not be quick.

Will it work in hot or cold conditions?

The rated working range is -10 to 40 degrees Celsius, with storage from -20 to 50. Like any lithium ion cell it gives up less of its capacity in the cold, so expect a shorter run on a frosty morning than you would get indoors.

How many charge cycles can I expect?

The cell is rated at more than 500 charge cycles under normal use. A cycle is a full charge and discharge, so topping the bank up part way does not use a whole one.
