Description

The VIM-DCCAM is a 1080p camera in a mains plug adapter with an Australian two-pin plug. What sets it apart is what it does not have: no WiFi, no Bluetooth, no cellular and no app. It records to a microSD card in the unit and nothing leaves the room.

That makes it the one to choose where there is no network at all, or where you do not want a camera depending on your broadband staying up. It runs from the socket with no battery, records 1920 x 1080 at 30fps in motion or loop mode, and has eight infrared LEDs that switch on by themselves in low light. It offers video plus audio recording through a built-in microphone.

Features

No network of any kind: no WiFi, no Bluetooth, no cellular and no app, so it works in a building with no broadband and there is no account to set up.
Runs from the socket: AC 110 to 240V mains only, with no battery to charge and no runtime limit.
1080p at 30fps: 1920 x 1080 recorded locally to a microSD card up to 128GB.
Two modes on a physical switch: motion activated or loop continuous, selected with the M and C switch under the front cover.
Eight infrared LEDs: they switch on automatically in low light and give a monochrome picture without adding visible light to the room.
Video plus audio recording: a built-in microphone records sound alongside the picture, so footage on the card plays back with audio.
Card reader supplied: the USB reader is in the box, so footage comes off on any computer.
53 x 46 x 32mm, 55g: small enough to sit in a socket without dominating it.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

A Building With No Broadband

A shed, a garage, a sleepout or an older building of your own where there is no network to join. Nothing here needs one, so it works where a connected camera simply cannot.

Cover That Does Not Depend On Your Internet

A connected camera stops being useful the moment the router drops. This one keeps recording to the card regardless, in a room of your own, and you read the card when you get there.

A Storeroom Or Back Office You Run

Premises you manage, with a notice at the entrance so staff and visitors know the area is recorded. Mains power and loop mode cover the whole trading day without anything to charge.

How it Works

Set the mode: insert a microSD card up to 128GB formatted FAT32 or exFAT, and pick motion or loop with the M and C switch under the front cover. Replace the cover.
Plug it in: put it in a 240V wall socket. It powers up and starts recording within seconds.
Retrieve: unplug it, take the front cover off, eject the card and read it on any computer with the supplied USB card reader. There is no app, no cloud account and no third party service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it work without WiFi?

Yes, and that is the whole point of it. There are no WiFi, Bluetooth or cellular components at all. Recording happens entirely on the local microSD card with no app, no router and no internet connection at any stage.

How long does it record?

Indefinitely while it is plugged in, because it draws power from the socket rather than a battery. Loop mode overwrites the oldest footage when the card is full; motion mode records only when movement is detected.

Can the USB port charge my phone?

No. The USB port is not functional. This is a camera in an adapter shell, not a working charger, and all the electrical draw runs the camera and the infrared LEDs.

Does it record sound?

Yes. It offers video plus audio recording through a built-in microphone, so footage on the card plays back with sound. Audio carries stricter rules than video: recording a private conversation you are not part of is generally not allowed in Australia, so choose where it sits with that in mind.

How do I get the footage off?

Unplug it, remove the front cover, eject the microSD card and read it on any computer with the supplied USB card reader.

Where am I allowed to plug this in?

Using a camera like this to protect your own home, business, property and family is lawful in Australia. Surveillance devices laws differ by state and territory, and filming people where they expect privacy, such as a bathroom or bedroom, or recording a private conversation you are not part of, is generally not allowed. If carers, cleaners, staff or guests use the space, tell them a camera is there. This is general information, not legal advice.
