Description

A radio sweep only sees a camera while it is transmitting. Wired cameras, battery recorders and anything powered down before you arrived stay completely invisible to it.

The WEGA-i works on the lens instead. Infrared light reflects off camera optics, so a device shows up regardless of type or power state, and the built-in infrared filtering glass rejects the reflections you get off mirrors and chrome so that what you see through the viewfinder is a lens rather than a false alarm. Range is 2 to 10 m with variable beam power, and it runs on two AAA batteries with no charger to remember.

Features

Filtering Glass Cuts False Positives: The infrared filtering glass blocks reflections from mirrors, chrome fittings and glossy surfaces, so what remains in the viewfinder is worth walking over to.
2 To 10 m Range: Enough to cover a conference room or an open-plan space from a standing position rather than approaching every object in turn.
Any Camera, Any State: Optical detection targets the lens itself, so wired, wireless, active and dormant cameras all show up the same way. If it has optics, it reflects.
Variable Beam Power: Turn it up for a wide first pass and down for close work, which is how you narrow a reflection down to a specific fitting rather than a general area.
AAA Batteries: Two standard AAA cells and no charging infrastructure at all, which means it works anywhere and a spare set costs nothing.
Battery Check Before You Start: A discharge indicator tells you where the power is before a sweep rather than halfway through one.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

A Boardroom Or Executive Office

A radio sweep covers wireless devices, but a pinhole camera wired into the building's own cabling produces no signal at all for it to find.

The WEGA-i covers exactly that gap, and the 10 m range means a single pass from one position covers most rooms. Run it alongside an RF sweep rather than instead of one, because the two find different things.

A Hotel Room Or Serviced Apartment

Somewhere you are staying that you did not furnish, where installing a camera takes minutes and finding one without a tool takes luck.

It runs on AAA batteries and needs no network, so it works the moment you walk in. Sweep the room before you unpack, paying attention to anything with a clear view of the bed or the bathroom door.

A Rental Property Or Changing Space

The filtering glass matters most in rooms full of shiny fittings, which is exactly what a bathroom or a changing room is.

Ordinary lens finders throw up a reflection from every mirror and chrome fixture. Here those are rejected before they reach your eye, so a bright point in the viewfinder is worth investigating rather than one of fifty things to check.

How it Works

Fit two AAA batteries and check the discharge indicator. There is no pairing, no network dependency and no app, so it is ready within seconds of being picked up.
Look through the filtered viewfinder and sweep the room while the LED matrix puts out its infrared beam. Real lenses come back as bright points against a clean background because the filter has already removed flat surface reflections.
Reduce the beam power as you approach to narrow the source down. Lower power shortens the range at which a reflection is visible, which is what turns a general direction into a specific fitting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it replace an RF detector?

No, it complements one. An RF detector finds wireless transmitters, including devices with no lens at all. The WEGA-i finds camera optics, including wired cameras that never produce a signal. Using both is what covers the ground; using one and assuming it did is how something gets missed.

What is the realistic range in a large room?

2 to 10 m depending on the beam setting and the lighting. In a darkened room, detection out toward 10 m is dependable. In bright conditions, work closer or reduce the ambient light, because you are competing with everything else in the room reflecting.

How does the filtering glass work?

It blocks reflected infrared coming back off flat surfaces such as mirrors, windows and chrome. A camera lens returns light differently because of its curvature, and that return is what still reaches the viewfinder. The practical effect is far fewer things to walk over and check.

Will it find anything other than cameras?

No. It detects camera lenses only. Audio bugs, GPS trackers and radio transmitters need an RF detector, so pair it with one if those are also on your list.

How much practice does it take?

Very little. Look through the viewfinder, sweep the room, investigate the bright points. The filter is doing the difficult part, which is rejecting false reflections, so most people are working confidently within a few minutes.

Am I allowed to sweep a room for cameras?

Yes, checking a space you occupy, such as your own home, car, office or a hotel room, needs nobody's permission. If you find a device, leave it where it is, photograph it and contact the police, because it may be evidence. This is general information, not legal advice.
