Description

A new site often has nowhere to mount a camera. There is no building at the gate, nothing at the compound entrance, and the nearest structure is a boundary fence you cannot fix to. This 4 metre galvanised steel pole arrives as three sections in a carton, none longer than 1.5 metres, and they thread together on site.

The head has four mounting faces, each with its own cable port, so one footing can carry more cameras as the site grows. One 350mm bullet camera arm is supplied and the unused faces are capped. The pole stands on the supplied 400mm anchor cage cast into a concrete footing, or bolts through its 250mm flange onto an existing slab, and the camera lead runs inside the shaft to an access hatch at the base. A lightning rod is supplied for the top.

Features

  • Anchor cage supplied: Two plates, four reinforcing bars and eight M16 nuts make up a 400mm cage that is cast into the footing, so there is no precast base to freight in.
  • Four faces on one head: Each face has its own cable port. One arm ships with the pole, and the other three faces stay capped until the site needs another camera.
  • Slab or in-ground footing: Bolt the 250mm flange onto existing concrete with four anchors, or land it on the cage studs in a new footing. Masonry anchors and the four M16 nuts and washers for the flange are not supplied.
  • Three sections, none over 1.5 metres: The base is 1 metre and the middle and top sections are 1.5 metres each, so the pole is assembled on site rather than delivered as one 4 metre length.
  • Cable inside the shaft: The lead runs from the head port down the inside of the pole to an access hatch near ground level, where terminations are made.
  • Bullet camera arm supplied: One 350mm arm suits the tube-bodied bullet cameras most sites run. A dome or PTZ camera needs a different bracket.
  • Lightning rod supplied: The rod fits at the top as standard. It is the rod only: bonding and earthing are specified separately for the site.
  • Assembled at ground level: The sections join and the camera is fitted to the arm while the pole is lying down, then two people stand it, so nobody works off a ladder at 4 metres.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

A Working Site With Nothing to Fix To

The ground is cleared, the shed is not up yet, and the cameras need to go in now. Cast the anchor cage into a footing near the entrance, stand the pole, and run the cable down the inside of the shaft to a box at working height.

An Existing Hardstand or Loading Apron

The concrete is already down and nobody wants it cut. Four anchors through the flange and the pole is up the same morning, with no excavation and no wait for concrete to cure.

A Yard That Keeps Growing

One camera on the entrance today, a second on the loading area later, a third on the rear fence after that. Each takes a spare face on the same head, so the footing is done once. Extra arms are sold separately as the surveillance camera pole mount.

How it Works

  1. Fix the base: on existing concrete, drill and bolt the flange down. On bare ground, bolt up the anchor cage, set it into a footing sized for your ground and leave the studs proud.
  2. Assemble flat: screw the base, middle and top sections together, fit the collar at the lower joint, then fit the arm and camera while the pole is lying down.
  3. Raise and expand: stand the pole with two people and secure the flange. When another direction is needed, remove a cap, fit another arm and feed that cable through the face into the shaft.

Frequently Asked Questions

How deep should the footing be?

It depends on your soil and how exposed the site is, so size it locally. The cage sets 400mm into the pour and the concrete around it does the holding. Ask a concreter or engineer to size the hole for your ground rather than working from a rule of thumb.

Do I need council approval for a camera pole?

Rules vary by council and by zone: height limits, boundary setbacks and heritage overlays all change the answer for a given site. Check with your local council before you pour any concrete, because moving a footing later means breaking the old one out.

Can I bolt it to existing concrete instead of digging?

Yes. The 250mm flange has four 16mm holes for exactly that, and it is the faster install by a wide margin. The thickness and condition of the existing slab decide whether it will carry the load, so assess it on site and choose anchors to suit.

How many cameras can it carry?

Up to four, one on each face of the head, and each face has its own cable port. One arm is supplied, and extra 350mm arms are sold separately as the surveillance camera pole mount.

Will it hold an equipment box or a solar panel?

An enclosure, a radio or an antenna can be band clamped to the shaft, which tapers from 114mm at the flange to 76mm at the head, so match the clamp to where it lands. Clamps are not supplied. A solar panel adds wind load, so size that against your own site conditions.

Does the pole move in strong wind?

A correctly sized footing stops the base moving, which is what the 400mm cage is for. Any 4 metre mast shows some movement at the top in a strong gust, which matters most on a zoomed camera, so on exposed or coastal sites size the footing locally.

Do I need to tell people about cameras on the pole?

Using cameras to protect your own property, site or vehicles is lawful. Where cameras cover areas used by staff or the public, signs saying the area is monitored are generally expected, and workplace surveillance rules are stricter again. Surveillance devices laws differ by state and territory, so check what applies where you are.
