Description

A remote gate, a machinery yard or a farm shed may be the right place for a security camera and the wrong place to run power. The VIM-S180W150 is the larger of the two Vimel solar kits: three 60W monocrystalline panels, 180W in total, charge a 150Ah lithium battery through an MPPT controller, and two DC leads with 5.5 x 2.1mm plugs supply compatible 12V equipment.

The battery holds a calculated 1,665Wh of nominal energy (11.1V x 150Ah) for sites with a heavier load or less winter sun, with overcharge, undervoltage and high and low temperature protection built in. The alloy housing and triangular bracket are IP66 rated with a front position for a camera, and the stated maximum output is 10A. The kit supplies power only: a WiFi camera still needs a WiFi network, and a 4G camera its own SIM and coverage.

Features

  • 180W from three panels: Three 60W monocrystalline panels give a combined peak rating of 180W. Actual generation depends on sunlight, shading, panel angle and season.
  • 150Ah lithium battery: 18650 lithium-ion cells store a calculated 1,665Wh of nominal energy, so connected equipment keeps running after sunset and through low-sun periods.
  • MPPT charge control: Maximum power point tracking manages charging from the panels, with charging and discharging control built in.
  • Two DC output leads: 5.5 x 2.1mm barrel plugs on a 12V DC system, with a stated maximum output of 10A in total, not 10A per lead.
  • IP66 outdoor build: Alloy metal housing and bracket, rated IP66 against dust and rain, with a front position for mounting a camera.
  • Battery protection: Overcharge, undervoltage, high temperature and low temperature protection.
  • Status at a glance: A flashing blue light shows charging, and a flashing red light shows the kit is supplying power.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

A Camera With a Heavier Load

Continuous recording, infrared at night and a second device on the other lead all add to the daily load. The larger panels and battery give more headroom than the 120W kit.

A Site With Short Winter Days

Southern sites and shaded valleys get less sun in winter. More panel area and more stored energy help a kit ride through short days, though the load still has to be sized against the sunlight available.

A Remote Compound or Pump Shed

Storage compounds, pump sheds and remote monitoring points are rarely near mains power. The two DC leads let one installation supply a camera and another compatible 12V device.

How it Works

  1. Position the panels: mount the kit where the panels get good sun with little shading, using the bracket and the two U-type stainless steel clamps supplied.
  2. Connect the equipment: check your camera's voltage, current draw, plug size and polarity, then connect it to one of the two DC output leads.
  3. Let it run: the MPPT controller charges the battery by day and the battery supplies the equipment at night. Blue flashing shows charging, red flashing shows power going out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does 180W mean 180W is always available?

No. It is the combined peak rating of the three panels. Actual generation changes with sunlight, shading, temperature and panel angle.

Will it work with my existing camera?

It depends on the camera's power requirements. Check its accepted voltage range, maximum current draw, plug size and polarity against the 12V DC output and the 5.5 x 2.1mm plugs. A matching plug alone does not make a camera compatible.

Can the battery run equipment when there is no sun?

Yes, until it reaches the discharge protection limit. Runtime depends on the charge level and the connected load.

Is all 1,665Wh available to my devices?

No. It is the calculated nominal battery energy. Conversion losses and the battery protection limits reduce what reaches the output leads.

Can the two leads run separate devices?

Yes, with compatible equipment, as long as the combined draw stays within the stated 10A maximum. The 10A is for the system, not for each lead.

Should I choose this or the 120W kit?

Choose this one when the load is higher or the site gets less sun. It has 50% more panel output and 25% more stored energy than the 120W kit: 180W against 120W, and 1,665Wh against 1,332Wh.

Does it connect my camera to the internet?

No. It is a power supply only. A WiFi camera still needs a WiFi network in range, and a 4G camera needs its own SIM and mobile coverage.
