Description

A finished camera has a body, and the body is usually what stops it fitting. The VIM-MINICAM5 separates the two: an 8MP Sony sensor on the end of a long flexible neck, with the electronics, the 5000mAh cell and the card slot in a module you can put somewhere else entirely.

It records 4K to a microSD card up to 128GB and runs about eight hours on a charge, or continuously on USB power. An external PIR sensor starts it on movement rather than on every change of light, and a 2.4GHz remote arms it without opening the housing. The WiFi is a direct hotspot from the camera itself, so live view works while you are within range of the unit rather than from another address.

Features

4K recording: An 8MP Sony sensor records 3840 x 2160 to the card.
Separate lens head: The lens sits on an 18cm flexible neck, so it can go through a panel, a vent or a bracket while the module sits behind it.
PIR triggering: An external passive infrared sensor starts recording on body heat and movement, not on shadows or headlights.
Remote control: A 2.4GHz handset starts and stops recording without touching the unit.
Local storage only: Footage stays on the microSD card. There is no cloud account and no subscription.
AV output: The supplied AV cable connects the module to a television or a recorder.
Two power modes: About eight hours on the 5000mAh cell, or continuous when it is left on USB power.

Applications

Real-World Scenarios

Your Own Workshop or Garage

A tool wall or a garage bay is exactly the kind of space a standard camera body will not sit in cleanly. The lens head goes on a bracket or through a panel and the module sits behind it on USB power.

A Holiday House You Leave Empty

Set it to PIR so it records only when someone is in the room, and collect the card when you next visit. Tell anyone who holds a key that it is there.

A Till or Stock Area in Your Own Business

The module covers a counter or a stock shelf while the lens sits flush in the fixture. Put a notice up so staff and customers know the area is recorded.

A Vehicle You Own

Battery power and the flexible neck suit a van or a ute where there is no tidy place for a camera body. Tell your passengers before they get in.

How it Works

Fit the lens: fit the lens head where it needs to see and put the module and battery behind it.
Set the mode: insert a microSD card up to 128GB and choose continuous or PIR triggered recording using the remote.
Retrieve the footage: take the card out to review the footage, or connect the AV cable to a television.

Specifications

Power: 5V, 2A maximum. Use the adapter supplied, or a standard 5V USB charger or power bank rated 2A or less. Do not use fast chargers (USB-C PD, Quick Charge, Super Fast Charging) or high-output power banks: they can damage the device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need WiFi at the site?

No. The camera makes its own hotspot and your phone joins the camera directly, so it works at a shed or a holiday house with no broadband. The trade off is that live view only reaches as far as the hotspot does. If you want to check in from another address, pick a model that joins your own router.

How long does it run on a charge?

About eight hours on the 5000mAh battery, and longer in PIR mode because it is idle between events. Left on USB power it runs continuously.

What starts the recording?

Either you do, with the remote, or the external PIR sensor does when it picks up body heat and movement in front of it.

What size card does it take?

microSD up to 128GB, which is not supplied. Loop recording overwrites the oldest files once the card is full.

Can I record with this legally in Australia?

Using a camera like this to protect your own home, business, property and family is lawful in Australia. Surveillance devices laws differ by state and territory, and filming people where they expect privacy, such as a bathroom or bedroom, or recording a private conversation you are not part of, is generally not allowed. If carers, cleaners, staff or guests use the space, tell them a camera is there. This is general information, not legal advice.
