Description

A camera that has to sit in one place for months cannot be a bare circuit board taped behind a vent. A bare board is a row of exposed solder points and a naked card slot.

This covert camera puts the control board and every port inside a vented case, then runs a 4K lens out on a 135mm ribbon so the lens sits in the opening while the recorder stays hidden behind it. The PIR sensor holds it on standby for up to nine months, waiting for a person instead of burning battery on an empty room.

Features

  • Audio recorded alongside video: Sound is captured with the picture. Recording a conversation you are not part of has its own rules in Australia, tighter than the rules for filming, so confirm your position before a deployment (see the FAQ).
  • Board and ports inside a case: The card slot, TV out, USB socket, three status LEDs and the PIR switch are openings in a vented shell, not solder points on a naked board.
  • PIR standby up to 9 months: The sensor holds the camera asleep until body heat crosses it. Nine months is the figure for a room nobody enters; a busy doorway spends the same 5000mAh far faster.
  • 135mm ribbon lens: The lens head is smaller than a fingernail and rides on a flat ribbon, so it sits in a vent slot while the recorder hides behind the wall.
  • 4K on a Sony IMX179 sensor: 3840 x 2160 at 25 frames per second, and a named Sony part rather than the unmarked sensor most bare modules ship with.
  • External PIR sensor on a lead: The sensor plugs into its own port and carries its own switch, so you can site it away from the lens and aim the trigger separately.
  • Every status LED switches off: Hold the photo button for three seconds and the red, yellow and blue indicators go dark, and they stay dark through a power cut.
  • Records while charging: Leave it on USB power and it keeps recording instead of stopping when the cell runs down.
  • 5000mAh battery, 4 to 8 hours: Twice the cell of the nearest module in our range, and it recharges in five to seven hours from any 5V supply.
  • Two-button key fob remote: A starts and stops recording, B turns WiFi on, so you never touch the camera once it is placed.
  • WiFi live view up to 8 metres: Your phone joins the hotspot the camera makes, for framing and playback nearby. It does not join a building network and there is no viewing over the internet.
  • AV cable for TV playback: The supplied cable puts live video and recorded files on any TV or recorder, and it is the only route into the full settings menu.
  • microSD up to 128GB: Takes a Class 10 FAT32 card from 32GB upward. The card is not included and must be formatted in the camera before the first run.
  • Three-minute file splits: Long sessions are written as three-minute clips, so a full card is a folder you can scrub rather than one unwieldy file. One, three or five minute segments can be set in the menu over the AV cable; disabled while WiFi mode runs.
  • No weather sealing, and it warms up: This is an indoor unit. The body heats while it records, so it needs air around it and must not be packed against insulation or fabric inside a cavity.
  • Anti-shake and wide dynamic range: Both sit in the on-screen menu alongside exposure, white balance, time stamp and time-lapse, reachable over the AV cable.

Applications

Stock loss from a locked store room

Product disappears from a room only a few keys open, and you need to know which openings matter. Site the lens in an air vent above the racking and let the PIR log each entry, so you review a handful of triggers instead of hours of still shelving.

A property left standing empty

Between visits there is nobody to check a camera. On USB power it records continuously; on battery alone the PIR keeps it on standby for months, and the indicators stay off so nothing announces it.

Documenting a recurring problem

Repeated damage to a shared entry, or a fire door propped open through the day, needs dated footage rather than a report. The ribbon lens fits an existing gap in the fitting, so nothing new appears on the wall for anyone to notice.

How it Works

  1. Place: Thread the lens through a vent slot, a speaker grille or a drilled hole. The case, battery and PIR sit behind it.
  2. Arm: Switch the PIR to on and hold the power button for three seconds. The indicators go dark and the camera waits for movement.
  3. Collect: Pull the card and read it on a computer, or plug the AV cable into a TV and review on the spot.

Specifications

Power: 5V, 2A maximum. Use the adapter supplied, or a standard 5V USB charger or power bank rated 2A or less. Do not use fast chargers (USB-C PD, Quick Charge, Super Fast Charging) or high-output power banks: they can damage the device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the lens go?

Anywhere with an existing opening the lens can look through. The 135mm ribbon lets the lens sit in a vent slot, a speaker grille or a drilled hole while the case and battery stay behind the panel, so nothing new appears on the wall.

Can I watch it from another location?

No. The WiFi is a direct hotspot from the camera itself, reaching about 8 metres, and your phone connects to it the way it connects to a router. There is no internet viewing and no building network join, so use it for framing and playback nearby.

Does it record in the dark?

No. There are no infrared emitters on this module and minimum illumination is 1 Lux, which is roughly a dim room rather than a dark one. Site it where a light stays on, or where a doorway lets ambient light reach the lens.

What memory card does it need?

A Class 10 microSD card between 32GB and 128GB, formatted in the camera before the first run. If you power it on with an unformatted or faulty card it vibrates continuously instead of recording, which is the fault most often mistaken for a dead unit.

Where can I legally use this in Australia?

Using a camera like this to protect your own home, business, property and family is lawful in Australia. Surveillance devices laws differ by state and territory, and filming people where they expect privacy, such as a bathroom or bedroom, or recording a private conversation you are not part of, is generally not allowed. If carers, cleaners, staff or guests use the space, tell them a camera is there. This is general information, not legal advice.
